Welcome to the crafty side of my life. Here I'll be musing about projects I'm working on, and the creative process around them. Oh, and there will be occasional bouts of cooking, photography, and poetry, too.

A silk I'm not sure I'd collect...
Fascinating! Since I do textile artsy stuff, I keep my eyes open for what other folks are up to. I found this article this morning: http://www.nytimes.com/2009/09/23/arts/design/23spiders.html?pagewanted=2&_r=1 . It is about some folks who have made a gorgeous, golden brocaded cloth...out of spider silk. Can you imagine! It is beautiful, and terribly strong. But I'm not sure I'd want to go into spider farming any time soon.

Especially if you Google or Wikipedia the Madegascar Gold Orb Spider and find out it's big enough to kill and eat a bird... there are photos of one trying to saw the head off a bird that's bigger than a sparrow, smaller than a robin. Very icky!
ReplyDeleteYeow! I've pondered silk worms, but the spiders I think are right out.
